Sara Asks... Do You Think You're Fashionable?

Fashion started once humans stopped walking around naked and started covering themselves with leaves (even then that was trendy). Fashion is the accumulation of all of this year's creations falling into one world. A fashionable person is the one who knows what part of these creations fits her or him the most, and one who can make any trend adapt to their own personal style. So, are you fashionable? If not, how can you be?

To be fashionable you need to go through certain phases - I think we all have.

Phase One

Thinking you have style but then discovering it’s nothing but a phase. Such as the pink everything, the emo style: let me hide half of my face with bangs and look like a raccoon with makeup or even the High School Musical trend.

Phase Two

The ultimate switch back to normal, and the self-discovery.

Knowing who you are, or at least knowing your comfort zone, is what first puts you on the right track. When you have confidence in one style, then you can develop it and make it your own. The one thing you should know though - it doesn't have to be today's trends, or something belonging to a specific country. Fashion is a lifestyle and a definition of self; it’s a concept that people can express themselves through.

In other words, you can adopt a single style and develop it, or multiple styles, and try to find your mid-ground. I personally have a main style and sub-styles; I will explain... the main style is my love for layers in winter and shorts and boots in summer. The sub-styles consist of a mental mood board where I match my clothes to the vibe of the place I'm going to or even the interior of it .. shush, tell nobody. I'm not crazy. My main style sometimes doesn’t agree on some stuff my sub-style would make me wear, but yeah isn’t that what makes it fun? The point is, the ability to learn how to play between colors and fabrics, styles and matching them to your liking is what gives you the fashionable vibe. And always be confident because without that, you would never even try.

And believe me, when you can start saying, “this is so me,” only then know you have your style. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the definition of fashionable.

Fashion is defined by everything; lifestyle, architecture and many other fields. In my case, fashion defines me. I analyze and look at things based on their shapes, colors and details. Being Moroccan helped me grow a great understanding of layering and accessorizing clothes. On the other hand, visiting European cities such as Paris, Milan and Barcelona nourished that same understanding of universal trends and enabled me to implement it to my own style.
